I appreciate the parallel universe of this one little town that Chaos Sauce keeps visiting and finding batshittery happening on every major holiday XD An assortment of small reactions:
--Scooby-Doo (the ORIGINAL original 60s version and the late 90s/early 00s movies) was the one cartoon I really grew up with and I have a deep and abiding love of it, and as a Certified Classic Scooby-Doo Expert I was so pleased and amused with this homage to it. The blatantly obviously red herring! (I love that he turned out to be a benevolent necromancer, that's a good twist.) The "scaring people away to make real estate money" motive! The sketchy stranger from the beginning being the real culprit! The obviously fake ghost and the much scarier ghost! It's all Excellent
--I love Goodrich's willingness to just... do shit, that is actively unhelpful but very fun character-building-wise? Turning into a mastiff for this entire episode, or That Time He Used An Elemental Gem To Have A Friend For An Hour, it's just truly good chaotic DND feels
--eeeeeeek the teeth thing freaked me out almost as much as Ali and I could not have handled continuing to do it
--that said, 99% of haunted house things make me laugh instead of scaring me, but like in a way where I still have a really good time with it. I worked in a haunted house; I love haunted houses, if you're the right kind of person to visit them they are SO much fun
--poor Johnny XD I want this continuing saga of the 30yo child
--really unusual and unique for a DND one-shot to involve NO real combat? They could have fought the ghost I suppose, and decided not to, but still. While combat stuff is fun, I really like how this group runs their game with way less combat focus. I think it works well for them too -- they're not necessarily the most facile with spells and attacks and planning that stuff compared to CR, or even TAZ, but they're a lot of fun to watch just kind of... knock around their world and roleplay and problem solve things without necessarily getting into battles. CR always feels like it's building to encounters, to me, whereas with BomBARDed I'm never disappointed if something gets resolved without ever rolling initiative. It feels a lot more... Hobbit (the book)-esque, I think, where it's just some odd folk wandering around the world and running into trouble, and it doesn't need big battle to feel satisfying.
Honestly I enjoyed this episode more than I at all expected to; often one-shots feel a little crammed together and don't engage me as much, but this was I think just such a good showcase of what makes this group fun to watch.

I listened to this specific episode once before but I remember nothing about it lmao, because it was a while ago and then I just failed at listening to podcasts for a while so I never got to the next episode, so I decided to just start over.
I absolutely die at Dominic saying with perfect unbroken seriousness, "[the Scorpion King] is portrayed by Dwayne the Rock Johnson."

Yknow I do wish they'd consider inviting on guests/experts from time to time, especially on a highly specific topic like afternoon tea, because there are things that I know, just from having gone to a few different afternoon teas, that Theresa appeared not to (witness me screaming RUSSIA at my phone when they were discussing whether any other cultures have afternoon tea). Like, it sounded like neither of them have ever attended an afternoon tea? Which is fine lol, but it's a bit weird to talk on a podcast with supposed expertise about something that you've never in your life done when that thing is still relatively common practice for kind of a lot of people.
